Testing apps for countering trafficking

Freedom United has an article about an audio app in 14 languages and dialects that is being tested in Thailand to see if it can accurately identify victims of a range of human trafficking crimes. Called "Appraise", there are two main points that are being tested. The first is the hope that the standardized menu of simple "yes/no" questions will remove potential interviewer bias or translator error, while the second is that the use of audio through headphones will give those who have potentially been trafficked the ability to answer questions truthfully even with a trafficker or overseer nearby. Both these issues have been major stumbling-blocks to accurate assessment in the past so it is to be hoped that Appraise will be able to fulfill its design.
